Bangladesh Embassy France Celebrated Victory Day-2015

Community France: The Victory Day-2015 was celebrated by the Embassy of Bangladesh in Paris with due solemnity and enthusiasm on 16 December in the Embassy premises. Bangladesh Ambassador to France, Mr. M. Shahidul Islam hoisted the national flag in the morning at the Chancery in the presence of Bangladesh community leaders and Embassy officials. This was followed by recitation from the Holy Quran and observance of one minute silence showing respect to all the martyrs of the glorious liberation war. The messages on the occasion from Hon’ble President, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon’ble Foreign Minister and Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs were read out by the Ambassador; Mr. Md. Firoz Uddin, Commercial Counsellor; Ms. Anisa R. Amin, First Secretary (Culture); and Ms. Farhana Ahmed Chowdhury, First Secretary (Political) of this Embassy respectively.

 A discussion meeting on the significance of the day was held with the active participation by expatriate Bangladeshis living in France. A good number of Freedom Fighters took part in the discussion and shared their war-time experiences with the participants at the event. As many as 20 persons from different organizations of Bangladesh community including, politicians, businessmen, cultural, media & sports personalities and professionals spontaneously participated in the discussion and they spoke on significance of the Victory Day. The discussants paid tribute to the Farther of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his leadership and to the valiant freedom fighters for their sacrifice in achieving independence of Bangladesh. They also recalled the contribution of the former French Minister and novelist Andre Malraux in our liberation war in 1971.

  Following the celebration of the Victory Day, a discussion meeting was also held in connection with the observance of the International Migration Day 2015. The speakers felt that in view of the important role played by the Bangladeshi Diasporas in the socio-economic development of their motherland, expatriate Bangladeshis should get more facilities and privileges from Bangladesh government. They also stressed the need for learning local language for better integration in the mainstream socio-economic life of the destination country.

  Among the local Bangladeshi community leaders, Mr. Benjeer Ahmed Selim, Mr. Md Abul Kashem, Wahid Vir SA Taher, Mr. M. A. Kashem, Mr. Jamirul Islam Miah, Dr. Ataur Rahman, Mr. Shahed Ali, Mr. Abdul Matin, Mr. Delwar Hossain Koyes, Mr. Sirajul Islam, Mr. Mintu Md Chowdhury, Mr. Saleh Ahmed Chowdhury, Mr. Ashraful Islam, Mr. Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, Prof. Apu Alam, Mr. Faisal Ahmed Deap, Mr. Ahmed Ali Dulal, Mr. Masud Hyder, Mr. Shahin Arman, Ms. Ishrat Jahan Lucy participated in the discussion meeting.

  In his closing remarks, the Ambassador paid tribute to Bangabandhu Seikh Mujibur Rahman for leading the country to independence and recalled with gratitude the contribution of the valiant freedom fighters in achieving independence of Bangladesh in 1971. He highlighted the contribution of the expatriate Bangladeshi people in our economy and urged them to respond to the clarion call of Hon’ble Prime Minister in materializing the dream of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in building a Golden Bengal.

  The participants were entertained by Bangladeshi food at lunch time. A special prayer session seeking Almighty Allah’s blessings for eternal peace of the soul of Bangabandhu and the martyrs and also for the peace and prosperity of the country, under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was conducted by a Bangladeshi Imam in Paris.
